Climbing Klyuchevskaya Sopka
Klyuchevskaya Sopka (Russian: Ключевская сопка; also known as Kliuchevskoi, Russian: Ключевской) is a stratovolcano which is the highest mountain on the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia and the highest active volcano of Eurasia. Its steep, symmetrical cone towers about 100 kilometres (60 mi) from the Bering Sea. The volcano is part of the natural UNESCO World Heritage Site Volcanoes of Kamchatka.
Climbing Klyuchevskaya Sopka is for experienced alpinists. Ash slopes, glaciers, cold and wind weather wait for them. The guides can help you to reach the top successfully.
If you feel yourself more than strong - you can use your feet to come to the volcano, without helicopter.
1 day | Arrival to Moscow. Meeting and transfer. Accommodation is in the hotels "Cosmos", **** or "Izmailovo", ***, DBL. Free time in Moscow or optional excursions. |
2 day | Breakfast in the hotel. Sightseeing excursion about Moscow on the way to airport for the flight to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PK). |
3 day | Arrival to Elizovo (local airport). Meeting with guide and transfer to PK. Accommodation in the hotel in PK or in the rest base in Paratunka. |
4 day | Breakfast. Leaving for Klyuchi town (north of Klyuchevskaya Sopka) (700km. 11-12 hours). Lunch on the way there. Accommodation in the private hotel (rooms for 2-3-4 persons). Dinner. Equipment check, food packing, radio check. |
5 day | Breakfast. Trip to the lake Derzhavin. Drive by "vakhtovka" to the border of the forest. Trip by foot to the hill "Karaulnaya". Hiking by mountain tundra to the lake Derzhavin. Arriving appr at 19.00. Fixing the camp at the altitude appr 1900m. No forest. Hiking appr 25 km. Overnight in the tents. Dinner in the camp |
6 day | Breakfast. Trip to the foot of the volcano "Sredniy" (Middle). Hiking appr 3-4 hours along moraine and then by glacier "Sredniy" to the pass (appr 2200m) between volcanoes Krestovsky and Sredniy. Fixing the camp. Dinner. Preparation to the climbing the volcano Sredniy. Hiking appr 10 km. Overnight in the tents |
7 day | Breakfast. Climbing volcano Sredniy (2978m). Light climbing the top of the volcano Sredniy. Return to the camp at appr 16.00. Dinner and overnight in the tents. |
8 day | Breakfast. Trip to the plateau between the volcanoes Krestovsky and Ushkovsky and Klyuchevskay Sopka, to the foot of the west of Klyuchevskaya Sopka. Start hiking at appr 09.00, hiking along glacier, 2-3 hours. Fixing the base camp (appr 2700m) for the ascent at the crater "Perevalny" (Pass). Dinner in the camp and overnight in the tents. |
9 day | Breakfast and climbing the volcano Ushkovsky. Start at appr 08.00, climbing along East slope. Return to the camp at appr 18.00. Dinner in the camp and overnight in the tents. |
10 day | Breakfast. Start to climb the top of Klyuchevskaya Sopka (4850m). If weather and physical conditions of climbers allow – you can reach the top during one day and return to the camp at 21.00. If no, you have time to make an intermediate camp at the allt 3700m |
11 day | Breakfast and hiking down to the lake Derchavin. Dinner in the camp and overnight in the tents. |
12day | Breakfast and hiking down to Klyuchi town, some port of the route is by "vakhtovka". Accommodation in private hotel in Klyuchi. Dinner |
13 day | After breakfast transportation to Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky whole day (appr 12 hours). Accommodation in Paratunka or in the hotel in the city. |
14 day | Day of rest (can be as reserve day if necessary), recreation, excursions (by your choice - driving to the shore of the Pacific Ocean, visit to fishing bazaar, local museum so on). Overnight in the hotel |
15 day | Breakfast and transfer to the airport. Seeing off in a\p. Departure for Moscow. Arrival in Moscow, meeting with guide and transfer to the hotel (“Cosmos” or “Izmailovo”). Accommodation. |
16 day | Transfer to the airport and seeing off. |
